Architecture and interior design firm Rerucha Studio, was tasked with renovating a mid-century modern house in Seattle, and as part of the update, they included a steel fireplace surround in the living room.

Originally designed in 1952 by Perry Johanson, the house features many mid-century details, however, the client wanted to update the original masonry fireplace with a more contemporary look.

The original fireplace was kept, however it’s now clad in blackened steel, making the updated fireplace an eye-catching detail in the living room.

A mantle above the fireplace was also added, while a concrete hearth runs the width of the fireplace surround and contrasts the dark steel.
